I lived in Mississippi during college and for a few years afterwards, and during my time there I developed a deep appreciation for Blues music. After visiting Indianola, MS where B.B. was born and raised I was inspired to paint this to try and capture the area. The Mississippi Delta is a very complicated part of the country where time almost stands still, among the nation's lowest income levels and most impoverished areas, with a stark racial and class divide, yet most of the most influential regions that shaped popular music and American culture as we know it, so my goal was to create something that felt flawed yet beautiful, appreciative yet conflicted.
